Li

in my opinion, no matter who, with age grow up the thought constantly changing, but the deep of people mind will not change, people will still keep it from born to die, this is like essentiality. god created people and he give people a different character we have to keep it and we can not change it.
like Amir, when he grow up always think about Hassan, when Rahim Khan call him go back Kabul he was try looking for an excuse to refuse him, like he has wife can not leave her or something else. because he is afraid to face his past, this is his inbeing same with when he was young try to avoid his responsibility. finally he go back to kabul. why? as i say with age grow up the thought constantly changing, he grow up, he became maturate and responsible. He wanted to be held responsible. but in the end he still can not face Hassan's son and do not want to bring him take care him. why? because his inbeing! he is afraid to face his mistake.

difference or same behavior of young and old Amir

I think there are big different between child Amir and thirty eight years old Amir. First of all, Amir accepted Hassan to be a real brother. Before having a conversation with Rahim Khan, Amir was actually confused relationship with Hassan whether friend or brother; however, finally, Amir turned to make in mind right way. And also, Amir left money for other people was differences between young and old. However, he stood had a behavior like in childhood. When he heard that Hassan’s was left in somewhere behind Rahim Khan and his parents, Amir did not want to go back to bring poor Hassan’s son.
To become an adult a lot of things would change in your life but not all of it. Amir has changed because he had to leave in America as a normal person not as he knows himself. He becomes responsible about himself and his father. He had to take care of his father when he was sick. Another thing that he realized is that he his same personality as his father dose. the similar thing is that he still trying to walk away from things that he have to do it as when Rahim Khan asked him to go get Hassan’s son. He refused because he didn’t want to have any problem since he has own life and his wife witting form him back in America.

Jiahui's assignment 7

In some aspects, the adult character of Amir is similar to the child one. He's still a man "can't stand up to anything" and his first reaction is escape when faces cruel facts. For example, after Rahim Khan asked him to go to Kabul and bring Sohrab back, Amir obviously didn't want to go. That's because he wouldn't like to shoulder the responsibility which he should take. He's a coward so he couldn't stand up to it. Another example is, when he knew Hassan actually was his brother, he shouted, reviled and "stormed out of the apartment". The chain of his reactions demonstrates that in his subconsciousness, he avoided accepting the truth, especially a cruel one.
Everyone will change because they're growing up all the time, however. Amir is not an exception. When he was a child, he just felt a little guilty to Hassan, but adult Amir realized Hassan's unfortunate is because of him and also his father. Thus, his feeling is not just guiltiness but also atonement. Here are two examples from his thought. One is that "Rahim Khan had summoned me here to atone not just for my sins but for Baba's too". The another one is "How could I pack up and go back home when my actions may have cost Hassan a chance at those very same things?" That may be the biggest difference between the child and adult Amir.

Terry's Assignment7

Similar Aspects: No matter Amir was a child or an adult, he always felt self-condemned and sorry about making Hassan and Ali out. And the relationship between Hassan and Amir is closely. When they were children, we played together. When they met each other some years later, we talked a lot.
Different Aspects: In childhood, he just treated Hassan as a servant, even always joked Hassan for fun. When Amir was an adult, he admitted Hassan as a brother. During the talking with others, Amir said Hassan was his brother. When Amir was a child, he always thought about himself and not cared others’ feeling, but now, he started to help others. When Amir met Hassan again, Amir cared his family.

Hitomi assignment#7

As a similar character of Amir, he is still devious and coward. He has looked for the way he can make atonement for his guilt in his childfood. And when Rahim Khan asked Amir to go to Kabul to find Hassan's son, he found it. But he rejected Rahim's offer with some pretexts, like "I have a wife in America, a home, a career, and a family." He knew what he had to do then but he hesitated. He was afraid to take the responsibility in exchange for his life in America.
However, if he didn't change at all, he would evade going to Kabul. He finally made up his mind to go there because he was aware that he was old enough to take an action. He decided to do his own 'fighting' for his brother. I think this point especially showed Amir's change. Also, I found out that Amir became to respect others. He showed his respect at some points and he was more considerate then his childfood. He was egotistic and didn't consider of other's feeling when he was a child.

Amy's assignment 7

On one hand, Amir still a little cowardly. He didn’t want to heard the confusion things Rahim Khan told him and felt like going back to home. What’s more, he refused Rahim Khan’s request about Hassan’s boy at first because Kabul is dangous. The reason that Amir did’t want to take a risk to back to Kabul, because he has a family in America and live a peace life. He didn’t want to end this kind of happiness.
On the other hand, Amir become more braver and responsible for his past. He admitted Hassan as his brother and decide to back to Kabul to find Hassan’s son at last. He also felt sorry for what Baba had done to Ali and Hassan. Amir thought that it’s not fair to Hassan to live as a Hazara without respectful so many years. He think it’s time for him to atone the crime which Baba and himself did and end the bad cycle.

Stella's assignment 7

With time passed, Amir's character have changed in some aspects. Meanwhile,he still keep some character when he was a child. He become responsible and brave,he admitted that Hassan ,who was born by his father and a servant,is his brother. Besides,he became considerable,he bought suger before he went to see Hassan's son as he thought child would like this. By contract,Amir was still a little cowardice, when Rahim Khan spoke Hassan, when Amir spoke Hassan's name, he felt uncomfortable as he could not face the fact happened before. It was just like when he was young ,he make some mistake to Hassan,he chose to escape. Additionally,he is selfish as he do not want to go to Kabul, because in America, he has a home, wife and career.

Assignment #7 Liz

Amir has changed a lot since his childhood, becoming much more brave. When he was told by Rahin Khan that Hassan was his illegitimate half brother, although he escapeed at first, after a struggle, he built up his mind to bring Sohrab to Kabul. The other example is that in Jalalabad, he didn't avoid the Baba's secret. He was brave enough to admit that Hassan was Baba's love child. He is different from his childhood at this point, instead of run away. However, he is still very concerned about Hassan, which is the same as the past. The first example is that in Rahin Khan's house, he gave Amir Hassan's letter and photograph. Amir read the letter twice and looked at the photo for a long time, showing that how valued were this two stuffs to him. And when he showed the Polaroid to Wahid, he noted, "Seeing Hassan's picture again tore the fresh scab off his death. I had to turn my eyes away from it." These two examples both shows the fact that Hassan is still one of the most important persons in Amir's heart.

assignment 7

Adult Amir vs. Child Amir

From whole period of Amir’s growing, it was easy to find Amir was a sensitive and emotional people. The personality of Child Amir is complex because he didn’t know how to figure out and analyze things happened around him, so it cause his action that avoiding things happened. Hassa things shows it, weaknesses of Amir, and it real hurt Amir even he became a adult, it was obviously that shadow remained in his heart was never disappear.

People’s character actually has no change. The important things between Adult Amir and Child Amir is eventually Amir discover his essentiality, to face the real feeling, to be brave, to be soft and to be honest, and these reason help he raise above his shadow. The other change is he becomes more patient, not like that easily being piece off.

As story goes on, when Amir back to see hassa’s son, it symbolize a change of Amir compared with he left his friend away. Also, We can see adult Amir was much more mature than he was young.

Jun's assignment7

The adult character of Amir was somewhere different to the child character of Amir. The big changed was that he started to stop his self-interest becoming doing his own fighting and facing facts in his own thinking and actions. He flight to Pakistan after he got a call from Rahim Khan even he was not sure what he was going to do with it. But in the end he decided to go to Kabul to look for Hassan’s son. Sohrab, he knew it was “a way to be good again.” He grew up. When Amir stayed in Wahid house, Amir told Wahid that he went to Kabul for looking for a boy. At the first time, he released himself after many years lies. He told Wahid that Hassan was his half-brother, his illegitimate half brother. In another hand, we also can see some his adult character similar to his child character such as his self-interest before getting change, even though he had known all the secrets about his family from Rahim Khan. He wanted to evade the truth. “I can’t go to Kabul. … I have a wife in America, a home, a career, and a family.” “I wished Rahim Khan hadn’t called me. I wished he had let me live on in my oblivion.” He run away.

assignment #7

There are similarities and differences between adult amir and child amir. Because of Amir grew up in America, he developed himself in many ways. He changed as personality. Because, now he is an adult and take responsibilities. But, of course he still has similarities with child Amir. Because many of his behaviour is remains from his childhood. We can see similarities both ways as physical and mental. If we need to give some examples, he still has car sickness. This is one physical similarity, that he has. When Rahim Khan asked him to go and bring Sohrab. Amir wants to escape from it. He doesn't want to do that. He doesn't stand for his brothers son. That shows, he is just like when he was a kid. But, Of course there are differences between adult Amir and child Amir. Biggest difference is, even though he hesitates first, adult Amir takes responsibility and he fights for right. He tries to be a man. Also, another difference about Amir. He thought that he and Baba was different. Now he sees that there are similarities between Baba and him more than he knew. In a way, he starts to be like Baba.

Adult Amir vs. Child Amir from Dana

After Amir had been lived in American for many years and he became 38 years old. The adult characters of him have changed as the child character of him in his thinking and his actions. When he was a child, he believed that Hassan is only his servant. He never admits Hassan as his friend or brother. But after Rahim Khan told him all the truth, he said to Wahid ‘He was my half-brother, my illegitimate half brother.’ He finally admitted that Hassan is his brother, and he went to find Hassan’s son to bring him back. He also had become more generous. He gave his own watch as a gift to a child because he thought the child liked it. He would never do this before. What is more, he left a fistful of money under a mattress in order to help those children. However, some of his adult characters still like the child character of him. He still won’t stand up for himself or anything. When Rahim Khan asked him to bring Sohrab back, he said ‘I don’t want to go to Kabul, I can’t! Kabul is a dangerous place. ’ He was still very selfish. He didn’t want to give up his life to go to Kabul. He said ‘I have a wife in America, a home, a career, and a family.’

Alzahid-Adult Amir Vs. Child Amir

From what we have read in the past chapters, we can easily tell that Amir lived a weak childhood, he wasn’t able to do anything by him self. Amir got older and he is trying to fix what he had done in his childhood, that why his going back to Afghanistan.

As in Chapter 16, in which Rahim Khan updates Amir on what has happened to Hassan since Amir and Baba left Kabul, or in Hassan's letter, in which some of the same events are told from a different point of view

The adult Amir moves to remedy this failure by accepting the mission to rescue Hassan's son, Sohrab, from an uncertain end.

The author alludes to earlier in the book, when Amir hid money in Hassan's bed in order to get rid of the guilt-inducing presence of the boy. This time, however the adult Amir hides money in order to help Farid's family, who suffer greatly form the oppressive regime of the Taliban.

Adult Amir vs. Child Amir from Xinyue

During these years Amir becomes adult. His character has changed some but he still has the similar character with child Amir. The same thing between adult Amir and child Amir is that he is afraid of stand up to do anything. He doesn’t want to risk. At first he refuse to go Kabul because he has a wonderful life in America he is afraid of to lose it. Like when Hasson was treated badly by Assef he never help Hasson because he is afraid of he would get same treatment. Amir wished he didn’t get a call from Rahim Khan, he is afraid of admit all these truth. He lost the way. The difference between adult Amir and child Amir is that adult Amir admits Hasson as a brother. He said to other people Hasson is his half-brother. He found Hasson is very important person to him. When Amir was child he never said anything about relationship between them and never wanted to admit Hasson except servant. Now Amir wants to find a way to be good again, he very regrets his behavior in childhood. Although Amir didn’t want to go Kabul, he obeyed Rahim Khan’s advice to go to find Hasson’s son. He know it is right and he has responsibility to do that as a son, a brother and an uncle.

Anna's Assignment# 7

Adult Amir vs. Child Amir
In order to chapters 15-19 I understood that Amir behavior was really changed compare to when he was a child. In some cases he still behave like a child because I believe there is some behavior in most the people that they grow with them and getting rid of them is so hard. Like when children grow with feel of jealousy he/she will have this feel for whole of his/her life unless people want to change their manner. As I read the text I figure out Amir still has not good feeling about Hassan or feel of missing him, because when he saw Rahim Khan he didn’t ask about Hassan and what he is doing ,he waits until Rahim Khan start talking about Hassan. Also when Rahim khan asked for helping sohrab and picking him up from Kabul he wasn’t accepted, he said I have family I have good life in America, I don’t want to risk. He was still really selfish like in earlier when we read about when Assef and his friends hit Hassan, Amir stayed back and he didn’t help Hassan. In the other hand he had changed in some characteristics, such as generousness, like when he was in driver's house and he tough the children like his watch he gave them the watch, his own watch as a gift which he didn’t do that before. Also when he was about to leave there house he leave some money under the mattress for helping them. Actually he did this many years ago but this time for assisting them not for accusation to robbery.

Assignment 6

International tourism is booming, millions of tourists go to other countries to explore the outside world. Tourism enhances the mutual understanding between the local people and tourists. Some people hold opposite opinions. They think that international tourism causes tension rather than promoting understanding between people from different cultures.
The people holding the latter view suppose that tourists are likely to offend the local people because of the lack of knowledge of the local customs, which differ from their own. Moreover, tourism inevitably harms the natural resources and the cultural legacy, which may lead to the resentment of the local people.
However, I can hardly assent to this idea: the above mentioned rarely happens. In my opinion, international tourism does encourage the understanding between people from different countries. For one thing, without going to see for themselves, people may never know what other countries are really like and thus can be misled by hearsay or films and TV programmes, which, more often than not, are one-sided. For instance, having seen the fine scenery or experienced the rich culture of other countries, tourists will have the desire to develop a good relationship with the locals, which certainly contributes to the understanding between them.
In conclusion, instead of causing tension, international tourism furthers the understanding of people from different countries.

Hitomi assignment#6

My topic is about plastic shopping bags. In my opinion, customers should be charged for plastic bags especially in America. In Japan, we have to pay money for plastic bags in most stores because they waste a lot of resources. Therefore, I was surprised that people uses many plastic bags more than they need. I think if people in America make an effort to reduce a waste of resources, we can change the environment in the world.

Amy's Homework#6

My topic is about wild animals.I love animals and in my opinion human and animals should live together in harmony. However, as the develpoment of human society, there are more and more conflictions occur between wild animals and us. What should we do if we want to keep the balance of nature and enlarge our life range at the same time? I think is a crucial topic which we must pay attention to. So I perfer choosing this topic.

Assignment #6

My topic is about using animals for testing is ethic or not. On this topic, I think animals on testing should must done. Because, this is the only way to understand the side effects or results of the experiment. But, it should be in proper way. There should be some rules about it. Testing animals should be limited and if they are suffering, right things should be done.

We share our daily lifes with a lot of animals. Sometimes they could be our best friends, and sometimes they provide us our main needs. They serve us most of the time. What about they used for testing that so dangerous for testing on human being.

Assignment 6 form Xinyue

My topic is about TV violence. Nowadays the violence in the TV is more than before. Some people think the violence in the TV is bad, but I believe TV violence is not bad. I’d like to talk about this topic because I think the violence in the TV can make the show more attractive. And I don’t think the violence has negative effect to our life. It is just a show.

Elizabeth's Assignment#6

My topic is about Chinese food in America. There are many Chinese food restaurants in America, but Chinese food has been changed a lot to adapt to different tastes. Some Chinese are no longer authentic any more. And Chinese food is consideresd as unhealthy food by some nutritionists, which, I think has close relation with the change. So if you choose to eat Chinese food in a right way, it will do nothing harmful. I am interested in this topic because I am a foreigner here, and I can't get authentic food. I miss my home town food so much, it is the same with other international students, I think.

Terry's Assignment6

My topic is GOAL.
“Success” is very attractive word and everyone want to taste it. If you want to get the success, there is no doubt that you must know what you need could give you the success. That’s why I choose this topic.
Goal is very important for everyone to get his or her success. It’s the key of success and a indispensable element in people’s life. You will have energy to work hard with setting a goal, so the goal is the origin of your energy. You will also know the reason that you work hard. If you are clear for this concept, you may work hard without any carelessness. Of course it's easier and earlier for you to achieve your goals with setting ones at first. Just like Bolt, he could break WR and create miracles again and again with giving himself higher goals step by step. So we should set different goals for ourselves to fulfill our ambitions.

LI Assigment 6

Gun shoot is not singularity in american. because anyone is lawful possession of a firearm. because of they have guns, so when they quarrel with each other easy to angry and shoot each others.so i do not agree with american low which one is allow people have guns.Although American is freedom country, citizen have their droit to protect their free, when they are can't adapt of goverment, they can use gun fight with goverment.this is good thing, because this low american do not afraid of their bad goverment, but as we know gun is dangerous weapon, it can easy to kill people, this is why american have high shoot crim rate. good people use gun to protect themselves, bad guys use gun to kill. In my opinion the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. now in american is peaceful country, here no war or social unrest, so gun is not necessary.but they want proteck themselves how can they do?i think american people should set up a body. this organization for the stockpiling of weapons in peace time and with civilian management no goverment cotrol. when they need against with goverment or something then the organization will give them weapon to fight. if like this people will more safe and relax than now.

Anna Assignment# 6

I choose Black Friday as my topic.
Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving. In the busiest shopping day in year people try to win in the shopping race! Which is really interesting for me. Most of people wait all year till black Friday for buying their requirement. In black Friday you can see long lines that have come to existence sine one day before. In the other hands most retailers also lay heavily on black Friday to sale their produce especially in recession. The controversial question is that if there is a big deal and great bargain for customer why the retailers lay heavily on the Black Friday. In this essay I want to say that black Friday and most of discount in this day are lour more than real and all of them are publicity more than great bargain.

Dana'sn Assignment 6

My topic is Octuplet mom: ‘All I wanted was children’. The reason why I choose this topic is because I'm familiar with this topic and I think this is an interesting story. In my point of view, I think nobody can judge her, because America is a free country, people do whatever they want. I think that the people do have the right to having as many children as they want using reproductive technology. However, I'm disagree with what she did. If she had enough money to raise the babies then she could gave birth to 14 children. In fact, she is a single mom and she asks her family, her church, her friends to help raise her babies. So I think she doesn't take responsibility, she only thinks about herself. But this kind of reproductive technology is good for people who can not get pregnant.

HW 5

For baba the idea of America is a power, a better chance, a lot of opportunities, maybe a better future for his son Amir. baba wanted to start a live over there. however, it seems to be harder than he thought. baba got shocked, he didn't think they was a trust between people in America. An example of that when he was at the store trying to purchase something they asked hem of an ID he called that not trust.

For me I never thought of coming here so I didn't think about it a lot before I come here It just happened, but i used to have some ideas about America like it is a powerful country and love that idea.

Abdul Assignment #5

When Amir says "Baba like the idea of America" That means Baba want to go and live in America after what happened in Kabul. Baba wanted a better life for Amir, better future. Baba and Amir moved to the US, Baba had to work in a gas station to make money to eat, he's not wealthy anymore. One day Baba went the geochery store to buy some fruit and he didn’t have cash one him so he would written Mr.Nguyer the owner a check and Mr.Nguyer had asked for ID."He want to see my license,"Baba bellowed in Farsi. Baba got so angry and says "What kind of country is this? No one trusts anybody!" so he missed Kabul so much and how things going great for him there. For Baba America is a place to mourn his memories.

I heard lots of bad things about America before I got here, like how people are raciest and its not safe to live there. I been here almost three years now and nothing bad happened to me, I like it.

Assignment # 5

I believe that there are many people in the world have the same idea Baba had about the U.S.A. “Baba loved the idea of America,” it was clear to me that he loved the life in America before he tried to live in it. More specifically, the idea of America means that a country full of opportunities. A good example could be his reflections to President Reagan speech on TV. Suddenly, this idea got changed when he encountered the reality. His behavior toward Mrs. Nguyen request of the ID was a good example of his reflection on reality of America. He could not accept her request and explained it in negative way. Another good example could be his thoughts about been seen buying food with charity money. Giving those two examples could help us understand how Baba got chocked by the reality of America.
About me, before I arrived to the U.S, I had an idea that this country was a full of crimes, however, I knew that there were many chances for people to build their future. Now, living in the U.S is completely different from the idea of America. I adjusted my thoughts, I know not all states have very high crimes rate, only a few. I know that is always a chance for a hard worker to achieve her goals.

wei's #5 assignment

Baba used to be a man with power and very high expectations and self-respect, but there in US, he was no longer with any power and wealth. What's left is self-respect.He still loved his son Amir a lot and this was one of the reasons but not the major one that they moved to US.As he said "I didn't bring us here for me, did I?" which showed he wanted his son to have a bright future. Why he chose America is that he loved being powerful and American idea is respect achievements and power. Thus he chose move with his son to America. Of course US was the most powerful country.
Before i came to US. i thought Americans are not very friendly since i watched tons of movies about how violent americans are and how much power they want to have.I thought in US, almost everyone has a gun from being rubbed on the street. However , here in Kent, almost everyone is friendly and glad to help each other. They even greet strangers on street which we don't do that in China.Seeing is believing. That's is what my experence told me.

Assignment 5

I think baba’s thought about America is an ideal and peaceful country. He bring Amir to America from Africa basis on many reason that relate with war and degenerate people. Just like he said, “There are only three real men in this world, America the brash savior, Britain, and Israel.” He count them expelling the rest of them, instead of that, he call them “gossiping old women”. In spite of he thought American is rude, it still better than others. As for baba America is a hope. So he still dream for America and want to work hard there. As for me, I believe it is a good place for leaning language and leaning cultural. Even though it have been a short time since I came here, and i didn’t work hard admittedly. I just enjoy every thing new here, the way American think, the way American thought. I think they are polite and efficient people. One more thing that I appreciate very much is adventure around me. They looks old and romantic like they come from fairytale.

Hitomi assignment#5

Before Baba came to America, he had a good image about the U.S. At the beginning of chapter 11, he described America as "the brash savior" and one of three real men in the world. However,
he found out that his idea of America was different from the reality. The environment around the Bay Area is terrible for him. Also, when he entered the grocery store, he got mad to Nguyens because he was asked to show his ID. It's because he was very rich and had authority in Kabul, but his power didn't work any more in the U.S. Therefore, he had a frustration about that.
In my case, I thought that every American is friendly and overweight, also America is very dengerous place like everyone has a gun or knife. But it was of course not. There are so many kinds of people in the U.S. and it is not as danger as my expectation.

living in America gave Baba's an ulcer. But in reality, it's quite different. From the text, Baba got mad by asked for ID to paid with check in the grocery store. Also, the place they living in is bad.

My idea of America is similar to reality. I'm still live in earth. there still people with two hands, two legs, a face with two eyes, two ear. the place have sky, tree, and houses.

Baba's and Kiho's Thought for America

At first Baba loved idea of America, but it would not be adjusting to life in new country because living in American was totally different from his hometown. For example, when he wanted to buy any product by credit, he did not need to show his ID to anyone; however, here in America he had to prove his identify because he was not famous, and nobody could trust when it came to money. Therefore, his first thought, America the brash savior, was destroyed.
For me, I was really afraid of living in America before I came here because people could have a gun. It was not typical thing in Korea even police office. I thought people could easily fire gun when they were mad. But I changed after a few month later American people also afraid of gun, and carrying a gun was not typical thing to people, so I have felt safe with here now.

Anna assignment #5

As I understood from chapter 10 & 11, baba had found America as a safe place where can be ladder for his son Amir. Baba had found the united state as “brash savior”. As an example he told Amir “there are only three men in this world, America the brash savior, Britain and Israel”. When they were living in America baba found that living in America is not as sweet as in Kabul. In Kabul baba was famous and also he had a lot of common things with their neighbors. He couldn’t adapt himself with new country and culture where nobody can trust him as well as their neighbors in Kabul.
Individually before I came to united state my idea was contrary, I expected to encounter with so polite and well organized people, but I didn’t. In America sometimes people, especially young persons, mix up rudeness with freedom. Democracy and freedom is a great characteristic in U.S.A but most of the time young people abuse it, but I still believe in America as a good country.

Li 10&11

For people who lived in the country with war, all of them will think America is a ideal country for live. For BABA here do not have sound of bullet fired, no agro ,no war. Do not need afraid about someday have bullet throw his head also here is free country. And in his mind “American is real man”. But after BABA began to live here, He felt there are not perfect like imagination, here is a lack of trust between people. because different language, communication between him and the locals is a problem, and he just can find a hard work. before i came America, for me the impression that here is a developed economy look like everyone has his own car freedom of speech, fair competition,no cheat and most of people believe Christianism and read bible always pray before eat .everyone is enthusiastic and very polite. But as some body said things always imagined to be better than reality.after i lived here about half year , i found that there's also have cheat and deceptive, and some young men very rude for foreigner,When they drive past the roadside always shouted F word for foreigners, i think this is performance of not have diathesis .

Baba realized that what had happened in the truck that he and his son weren't in a perfect place to live so he liked to move to a save place with his son to save their life. However, he liked america because maybe it was a save place and good for living. Also, he thougth the life would be better thanin peshawer.

Stella's assignment 5

In Baba's opinion,America is a great country,America the brash savior are real men in this world. Actually,American do not live in harmony. No one trusts anybody.Nguyen wants to see Baba's license when he had no cash on him for the oranges although Baba and Amir have bought Nguyen's damn fruits and put money in his pocket.

Before i came to America,i supposed i would be tease as i am a foreigner and American are full of pride and prejudice as America is one of the strongest country in the world. But i think American are very hospitable now, they are so friendly, they say hello to you even they do not know you. Besides, they seem to ready to help you whenever if you meet with trouble.

Assignment 5 form Xinyue

Before came to the America Baba thought America is a good place for their future. Baba thought one of the real men in the world is American the brash savior. How Baba dream about this country, as if he planed to come here for long time. I think he must want to run his own business in here. Like when he was in Peshawar. And he believed Amir can have a good future in here. In my opinion this is the most important his idea of the America. But in fact everything is not as well as he thought. He found in this country no one trusts anybody. And he just got a small job and it made him fatigue. So he missed everything in Peshawar, like people, fields, and gardens. Baba was adjusting to America life for a long time. However there was much unhappiness happened, Baba didn’t want to go back Peshawar. Because he still believed America is the good place for Amir. I found although Baba changed a lot view of America, there is only one idea never change. I know here is just talk about Baba’s idea of America but I want to say form the idea of America I found Baba loves Amir very much.
Before I came here I thought America must have tall buildings everywhere. There are all develop cities. And America must have convenient transportation. And many kinds of stores, it must be busy every day. But when I arrived here I found not every place is like that just big city is like what I imaged. There are many small towns like Kent. And if you don’t have a car you cannot go anywhere. It’s very inconvenient. I know every developed country has its countryside.

When Amir says, "Baba like the idea of America." He is talking about moving to USA. They ran from the war, they want to have more bright future. Baba's idea of America is based on to give Amir a better life. We can understand it, when he says, "Peshawar was good for me. Not good for you." Also, Baba thought that he could adjust to American culture, they could be same as Kabul. But, in realtiy Baba was not a wealthy man in USA anymore. He worked as a mechanic to bring money home. Also he does not have the respect and friends like in Kabul. All that hard work and stress give Baba ulcer and some other illness. My idea about USA is not clear enough to see right now. Becase, The USA that i know from media is totally different from Kent. I haven't seen other parts of USA. So I am not sure about my idea. Also, because of I am a student. It doesnt fulfill my idea. Although, my ideas about studying in USA are relatively same. It was not a think that i don't expect.

Jun's assignment5

Baba loved the idea of America. That was the idea which he believed America was the brash savior, America was the country to be worth his time. “When Ronald Reagan went on TV and called the Shorawi ‘the Evil Empire.’ Baba went out and bought a picture of the grinning president giving a thumbs up. He framed the picture and huge it in our hallway, nailing it right next to the old black-and-white of himself in his thin necktie shaking hands with King Zahir Shah.” He did love America with his idea of America.
But, America was a place to mourn his “idea of America” also. He worked hard at a gas station. He lived in a poor condition. He got an ulcer. It was a complete different life than before when he lived in his hometown. He missed his old life. There was one thing really make him upset for the thing happened on him in America. He got to fight with Mr. Nguyen when he was asked to show his ID at Mr. Nguyen’s grocery store. Because, it would not happen to be asked questions and ID when he bought grocery in Kabul. “What kind of a country is this? No one trusts anybody!”
I thought it would be very convenience to do things in America before I came here. Everybody knew that America is a developed country. But I’ve found it will be very inconvenience if you don’t know driving in America. I didn’t drive in my country. But I could go any place easier. It is more convenience than in America.

Jiahui's assignment 5

In my opinion, "Baba loved the idea of America" means he loved its daring and resolution. Baba was a tough guy so he appreciated a really strong and powerful country, such as America. What he said could prove it:"There are only three real men in this world, America the brash savior, Britain, and Israel." Beside of his own emotion to this country, there was also another reason Baba loved this idea. It's because his son, Amir. He believed America was able to give Amir a brand new life. Thus, Baba made it as one last gift for his son. He said exactlly,"I didn't bring us here for me, did I?" However, America was more difficult to be adapted than Baba had imagined before. As Amir explained to Mr. Nguyen: "my father is still adjusting to life in America." Baba didn't have his status and wealth any more. He should create his life at the very beginning. It's an enormous change that he turned to be a worker at gas station from upper class. Those hardships and poignancy expressed the distance between dream and fact.
Before I came here, I thought the American life may be quite different from the Chinese life and the differences will appear in every aspects. Thus, I wondered if I can stand it. In the matter of fact, ignoring the tastes of food, it's not so hard for me to adapt the life here, however. Even though I've met some rough problems and I know I'll meet more, it's not a big deal. I'm strong enough to face the challenges from life because I believe the future is in my own hands.
