# 10

The Kite Runner is the first English novel that I read . Hassan and Amir are the main characters in this novel .and thes storry to preserve the cultural heritage of Afghanistan spans Amir's life in Kabul and America.

Jun's assignment 10

The kite Runner is a story about Amir ‘s life. It discovered how Amir’s lifetime was made up by the events he had experienced which tied with Hassan and Baba another two major characters in the story and how his personal character was. Amir’s betrayal to Hassan was a significant event among the story. It not only broke the relationship between Amir with Hassan, but also turned Amir living in his guilty and Hassan’s shadow all his life. Amir facing death took action to rescue Hassan’s son from Assef’s hand and adopted him was another main event in the story. It took Amir to become a real man. In the story, Hassan was Amir’s servant. Amir was Hassan’s half-brother. Baba was the father of Amir and Hassan. The relationship between them was unknown at the beginning for Amir. It also a factor made Amir’s life unusually.
I love this book at the part of deeply describing of Amir’s psychological activities about the things he was experiencing and special describing was given on the surrounding environment. The part in the book I don’t like it is the story itself. There were so many terrible things happened in the story. It shows us only sin of human. Anyway, it is value to be read. It brings me a lot of sense of human’s life issues related with family, relationship and war, culture and history etc. I would like to recommend this book to another reader.
The Kite Runner is a life story about a boy Amir and the people around him, he was grow up with his friend Hassan grow up together in Afghanistan, they most like brothers. They always together. Baba Amir's father is a rich businessman. Hassan's father is a servant to Baba.
Amir has possion in writing, but wasn't strong enough which Baba dislike about. Hassan a strong boy and willing to protect Amir when he in trouble, but he is disable. They both love running kite. However, everything have chang because the kite tour.

Final Blog for Abdullah

The Kite Runner is about two kids Amir and Hassan grow up together in Afghanistan like brothers. Amir's father is a rich businessman sunni muslim, educated. Hassan's father is a servant to Amir's father, and Hassan is sh'ia muslim. both boys didn't have mother. they spend their childhood on the streets of Kabul together,

Hassan Always protects Amir and help him and one time Hassan needed Amir's help and the help didn't come. The soviet invasion of Afghanistan sends Amir's family away to the United States of America, but Amir returns there as an adult during the Taliban rule to atone for his sins to Hassan.

The kite Runner's novel received  the mostly good reviews. The Denver post says The Kite Runner "ranks among the best written and provocative stories of the years so far" and I definitely recommend this novel to friends to read it because the story of the Kite runner shows that live could change al the way around at any time for any reasons.

Stella's assignment 10

Kite Runner, the whole story happened in Kabul, Amir is a little host who likes writing story, Hassan is a boy as servant. They played together since very young. Since Baba gived Hassan more admiration and hortation than Amir, Amir began to feel jealous of Hassan. In one kite competition, Amir and Hassan's kite beat all the other kites to win the competition. As Hassan said to Amir, "for you, a thousand times over", he went to pick up the kite. But he met with Assef, the bully guy. Because he wanted to protect the kite, he did not want to broke up the thing he promised to Amir, he suffered the affront frome Assef. Amir was also there, but he chose to escape, he give up to protect little Hassan, who see him as friend, and even brother. By the reason of regretion, Amir could not face Hassan, and could not face himself. Finally, he drove away Hassan by using some craft. Till December of 1972, due to Russia invaded Afghanistan, and Baba made a speech of revile Russia, Baba forced to take Amir to America. Nine years later, Amir became a writer by encouragement from Baba, and he married with one person he loved very much. But he still could not forget the incubus in childhood. One call from Rahim Khan made Amir go back to Pakistan. Then he know that Hassan and him have the same father, and Hassan was killed as he wanted to protect the house belong to Amir's family and Hassan's son was in orphanage. Since then, Amir began to save his soul.....
The whole story is powerful, the description of emotion is minute and wonderful. I strongly recommend people to read this book.

Final blog from wei

Kate runner started with Amir received a phone call and recalled his old memories. He was about to make a huge decision which he had not even think about before. Amir grew in Afghanistan in a rich family with a respectful father. Hasson shared the same roof with them but they were not friends but master and servant for Amir-Hasson treated Amir with nothing but respect whereas Amire was a selfish guy. He tried hard to attract his father- Baba's attention but it would not work out- he was not the type his father liked.Hasson always protect him from anything could hurt him.In contrast, whenever Amir did something bad, he would say to Baba, it was Hasson who did that. What's worse, after Hasson was offended sexually, he just standing there and watched it without saying a single word.He even thought Hasson was dirty and he drove them away bu telling a lie to Baba. Years later, Amir went to America with his father due to the war.Things were changed since then. He were not rich and powerful. Scenes back to the phone call.Amir decided go back to his mother land. On his way back, he found tons of secrets about himself, his father and ,of course ,Hasson. He was an andult, he decided to take the responsibilities. He has done somethings evil.It was time for him to pay back.
I highly recommended this book. It is really awesome. You will never know what will happen next. You just can not give it up.

Hitomi assignment#10

This story tells the friendship and betrayal of a wealthy Afghan boy, Amir and his servant, Hassan. They were born in Afghanistan and grew up together. They read books on the pomegranate tree and played with a kite…they were always together. However, Amir envied Hassan actually because his father Baba took care of Hassan better than Amir. One day, a certain incident ruined their life suddenly. By this incident, Hassan and his father Ali left Amir’s house. It seemed that they never saw each other. But one call from Baba’s friend, Rahim Khan brought Amir back to his old memory in his childfood. He decided to go back to Afghanistan to make up for his “guilt.”

This novel has many kinds of elements such as friendship, betrayal, love, bond, faith and so on. The complicated relationship of Amir and Hassan caused many things. So I couldn’t guess what would happen for the next scene. I felt like I was drawn into their world. I think it’s because the author express the character’s feeling by subtle descriptions like their actions or countenance. We cannot say that the ending was happy. But I was glad that Amir made up for his guilty finally.

Abdulaziz

This story took place in Afghanistan. It talked about amir's childhood. Amir's father was a very rich man in kabul. His mother died in childbirth. Hassan was a servant in amir's house. Amir and Hassan were always together. Hassan loved Amir as his brother. Baba didn't pay much attention to his son. On day there were kite, amir won. Then Amir went home but he didn't see Hassan home. He went out to look for Hassan ,he saw him with a gay his name is Assef and his friend. Assef raped Hassan ,but amir did nothing. After amir won his relationship with his father improved. Amir put his watch under Hassan mattress. The next day he told his father that Hassan stole his watch. Baba didn't want them to go but they did. When the soviet occupation afghanistan, amir and his father had to go to Pakistan by truck. Then, Amir and his father moved to San Francisco. Living in america wasn't that easy for them. Baba worked in gas station and he loved the idea of america. Baba celebrated with Amir when Amir graduated from college. Amir wished Hassan were with them. Then Amir fell in love with Soraya and they got married. Baba got sick. He had cancer. One day Rahim Khan called Amir and asked him to come to Peshawar. Rahim asked him to go to Kabul and bring Hassan's son, but he refused. When Rahim told him that Hassan his brother, he went.

I really like how the writer end this story. He showed how Amir were with Hassan ,and how Amir became after he moved th america. Also, all the money that his father had gone. Money nothing beside a relationship. I would recommended this story book for everyone especially for the rich people.

Assignment# 10

The Kite Runner is story of an Afghan kid named Amir. His relationship with Hassan, Baba and the others. We can see the tragedy that happened with war in Afghanistan and how our life could change with a single act. Khaled Hosseini shows us a strong relationship, real meaning of brotherhood, a family tragedy and transition in Amir’s life. While Hassan gives loyalty a complete different meaning, Baba reminds us, what can a father sacrifice or do for his son. Innocence and cruelty, growing up with struggles and regrets mixed in a fluent way in The Kite Runner.

You can feel the pain and struggles in your heart while you are reading. With Khaled Hosseini's descriptions, you feel like, you are in the story. Struggles of characters would remind our own’s. The Kite Runner is 371 page of drama that takes you in. If you do not like sadness and hard times, my recommendation is do not even attempt to open the cover. But, if you would like to read a good piece of literature, go and have one now. The Kite Runner is one of a kind about what it is going to be tells you.

Kiho

The Kite Runner, this book is kind of chronicle about Amir whose love, guilty, and redemption. And also telling about the problems about Afghanistan where had been suffer from other country and racial problem in Afghanistan. The main story set in Kabul where Amir and Hassan’s childhood. They are kind of a best friend even though their statuses are kind of master and slave. However the terrible happening cursed they are separated each other so that he gets a guilty about this happen. After Amir is turn to adult, he get a phone call from father’s friend. And he gets information about Hassan who was his half bother and his hometown. Amir was socked by all of happening and he decide to go Afghanistan for release Hassan‘s son.
In this noble, I can learn a lot about Afghanistan because I thought that Afghanistan mean for me was just war and Taliban. And I did not feel they have same love as I get from my hometown and friend. I love this book. I think that the book gave me very good example of well done story line and humanity.

Dana's Assignment 10

The Kite Runner is the story of Amir, a Muslim, who struggles to find his place in the world because of the aftereffects from a series of traumatic childhood events. An adult Amir opens the novel in the present day United States with a vague reference to one of these events, and then the novel flashes back to Amir's childhood in Afghanistan. In addition to typical childhood experiences, Amir struggles with building a closer relationship with his father, Baba; with determining the exact nature of his relationship with Hassan, and eventually with finding a way to atone for pre-adolescent decisions that have lasting repercussions. Along the way, readers are able to experience growing up in Afghanistan in a single parent home, a situation that bears remarkable similarities to many contemporary families in the world.
Ultimately, The Kite Runner is a novel about relationships. Specifically the relationships between Amir and Hassan, Baba, Rahim Khan, Soraya, and Sohrab, and how the complex relationships in our lives overlap and connect to make us the people we are. Follow the steps with Amir, changed from a craven boy to a brave man, from a persnickety person to a generous person. We see the shadow of ourselves. I recommend this book to you, because this is a book you will never forget.

Jiahui's assignment 10

A rich young master called Amir and his faithful servant called Hassan grew up fellowlike since they were babies. They generally played and read story books together. However, after a kite competition, an evil thing happened to Hassan. What's worse, due to Amir's timidity, their relationship deteriorated. Several years later, Amir with his father escaped to America from chaos caused by war in his hometown. He thought he could forget the past, but he wasn't able to do that because of his memory, especially his abandon to Hassan. In order to make expiation for his guilt, Amir came back to his motherland after two decades and he hoped he could do something for Hassan. But what he found in this travel was a huge lie. Nightmare came out again, but this time, Amir chose to be brave. Finally, he and Hassan rebuilt the relationship according a unexcepted way.
This novel witten by Hosseini called "the Kite Runner". Characters' emotion in the novel was described exquisitely and deeply. Besides, the enviroment description was in a quite special style. You can feel you're personally on the scene and see the world through Amir's eyes. What's more, the conception of this novel was ingenious. You may find before each climax appeared, the author had already used metaphor to indicate that. Thus, I recommend this novel, not only the description of emotion and enviroment, but also the unique conception.

Terry's Assignment 10

Amir was a rich businessman’s son in Afghanistan. He and his servant, Hassan, were good friends when they were young, even like brothers. After a kite match, Amir made Hassan out because of Amir's recreancy. Amir always felt sorry to Hassan since the calamity happened and he followed his father to America after that. When Amir grew up, he came back to his hometown in Afghanistan because he couldn’t forgive himself about that tragedy happening in his childhood. And he wanted to try his best to atone to Hassan, however, he found a big lie during the trip that Hassan was his father’s bastard, his elder brother. Despite of this, Amir did the best to bring-up Hassan’s son, Sohrab, to complete his atonement.
The story is labyrinthian but significant. The author depicted the experience of a hero’s growing, his self-fish, his recreancy and his adamancy. The kite carried author’s dream and evil. It’s worthy to read and the story tells the readers a lot for how to be a real man. What should you do when facing the problems like the author’s, to be brave to show your regret or to let them alone with time going by? The answer is that you should be brave to envisage your error, not only regret or self-accusation, but to face it bravely as the author.

Assignment 9 form Xinyue

The book is talking about Amir’s life, what happened in his childhood, and how his life changed. Hassan is his servant, but they always play with each other. They look like best friend. Amir’s father Baba treat Amir and Hassan in same way maybe better, it make Amir sometimes unhappy. There are 4 people living in Baba’s house, Baba Amir Hassan and his father Ail. During the time Amir grows up something bad happened. One day Ail and Hassan left the house. Then because of the war Amir and Baba moved to America, a new life begins. After Amir graduated from university he became a writer and he get married, he had a wonderful life. But one day he got call from Baba’s old friend, he have to go back to meet him because of his illness. Will Amir meet Hassan? What will happen next? The book is very attractive and the story is interesting. Although in the story Amir has many shortcomings, he isn’t special. Amir is just like a normal person in our life, I think it is the strong point in the book. It show’s how a person chose and save the problem. Maybe Amir’s case won’t happen in our life, but the unknown make story read like real. The book also talks about friendship and family; we can feel the how the relationship changes from child to adult. I just can give you the surface understanding if you read book you can get deep idea of the book. Just try it.

Anna's Assignment# 10

Book Review,
Kite runner book is the story of two boys with the name of Amir and Hassan who was both missed their mother when they were child. Amir’s father was rich man in Afghanistan and Hassan’s dad was Amir’s father servant and they lived together. Amir and Hassan grow up together they were playing with the kite together but in some cases Hassan honest and loyally behavior grabbing Amir’s father attention which makes Amir more jealousy about him. Until Amir started to make false accusation to Hassan. Times passed so by quickly and Hassan with his dad move Amir’s house and Amir and his dad went to America from escape of the war. After a while Amir came up with the biggest lie of his life and he decided to make up his pervious faults.
I think this story was a really deep story which showed us the transition of childish behavior to the mature behavior and also how the war suffer the people and take them apart of their habitat. I like the way in which khaled hosseini finished this book. After reading more than half of this book I thought so this is going to happen. In spite of dark and sad sense of this story, it was ended by nice event which makes me happy. I really recommend this book to the people and especially to the international students. In additions of having really understandable writing it represent a deep idea.

Amy's review

Amir, a boy in a rich family and Hassan who is Amir's friends and servant, took part in a kite race in the year when they were twelve. They enjoy the life before the race. However, everything has changed after the day which makes Hassan left Amir and they failed to met each other again in their whole life. Time flies, Amir moved to America and lived a peaceful life for years but he could never forgave himself about what he did to Hassan and lived with guilty all the time until a phone call from Pakistan.  Truth, responsibility and atone. What happened in that day?  What will be Amir's choice? What should Amir do to over the bad cycle? Let's watch and see.

This book is so nice that I cannot help to read it several times. I enjoy it because the love which described in this book is really touching. The feeling is so real that as if I was in the writer's shoes and spent the same days with Amir and Hassan. It's not only talk about kite runner but also a love runner. The  trying Amir did show us a tough process from a coward boy to a brave man which moves me a lot. I think this book told us that everyone no matter who, has a heart looking forward love and try his or her best to get it, will be happy in the end. We all should be a love runner.

Liz's review

Twelve-year-old childe Amir and his servant Hassan were very good friends. However, in a traditional event of running kites race, a very dire thing happened to Hassan. Amir felt extremely self-condemned and painful about himself, so he drove Hassan away from his home by an artifice. Later he escape from hometown to America with his father because the war. But during the life abroad, Amir could forgive himself for betraying Hassan all the time. He got a chance to atone his mistake after twenty years and he came back to his mother land, hoping to try his best to give a hand to his best friend. However, he turned out to find a shocking lie of his life. The nightmare was replayed. What will Amir chose to do?
The Kite Runner is a beautiful story with brutal realism. Hosseini showed us the nature and atonement of personality by his exquisite brushwork. This booking will shake your heart whiling reading. It is a story about life in transmigration, overlapping the beginning and the end of the story: the broad sky, the flying kite and the kids running the kites, cheering. The story honors the past days of the most precious time. This is the sparkling point of the book. The author also shaped an individual who grew up in struggle. Amir is a model of loneliness and brave heart. He was low, but he was a hero by being strong in heart and over come all the tough stuffs with faith. Although the story was brutal, this is a book that you can’t ignore.

Cut off for Assignment 9

Abdullah

My topic is about Baba's life in Afghanistan and his life in America. I chose these two sides because Baba had money, power, and respect from people around him but all of sedan his life has changed. He even start to depend on his son Amir sometimes.

American Amir VS Afghanistan Amir from wei

American Amir VS Afghanistan Amir. Since they moved to the US, life was totally changed.Baba and Amire had a difficult time adopting new customs and life styles. Both the most important, they were not rich anymore. Money can change a person dramatically, money can change a person's mind.Amir was also changed by their finical situation.

Abdulaziz

My topic is Amir’s life in the Afghanistan and in America . Things have changed since he moved to America. In the other side he still has something that hadn’t changed.

clover's topic

My topic is Amir vs Haswsan. I am interested in their personality and relationship towards two completely different people. Hassan always hold his friend unjudged, accepted, trusted, however, Amir never considered Hassan as his friends. Though comparing and constructing, their personality and relationship will be more clear.

LI

My topic is "BaBa's lifetime"
From Gabul to USA, BaBa life change a lot, from a rich and be respected man become a nomore old man even when he sick he did not have money to saw the doctor.Big downs and ups of his life.

Jiahui's assignment 9

My topic is Amir and Soraya(his wife). They had some similar parts, like each of them had a bad past. However, they had a lot of differences, such as their attitudes to bad things, their relationships with their families, their temperaments.

Jun’s comparison/contrast essay

Topic: Versus the choices made by the young Amir and the adult Amir
"The kite runner" is a detailed description of the course of Amir’s life from childhood to adult. His life and his emotions changing are comprised by his personal character and relationship he chooses between him, Baba, and Hassan. What Amir became and what Amir’s course of life was were shaped by the choices he made.

Terry's Assignment 9

My topic is Baba’s life in Afghanistan and in US.
There are many differences about his life in the two different places. When he was in Afghanistan, he had some luxurious house facilities and rich enough to do some charitable works, such as to build an orphanage. Make a lot money once on business and get others' respect. However, he nearly lost everything when he came to US. A luxurious house became a poor room. A hard job only could satisfy their basic life, even his neighbour always shout to him. On the other aspect, the similarities are smoking and loving Amir no matter where he was. Baba smoked a lot wherever he was and it resulted to his cancer directly. He loved Amir very much, such as help him to celebrate his birthday, spending a lot on his education and saving money for his wedding.

Assignment 9 form Xinyue

My topic is about today’s Amir and yesterday’s Amir. The book tells us how Amir grows up and his experience in his life. It is clearly to find how they changed and what is still same. How he treat people around him, his mind, and his actions.

Kiho

For my topic is about the relationship between detestation and love. And thesis is Amir’s feeling about the relationship with Baba, and his feeling about the relationship between Hassan and Baba built Amir’s characters which were timidity, selfish, regrettable person.

Anna's Assignment #9

Topic: Young amir and old Amir
Thesis Statement: The transition process from being a jules and ambition boy to brave and modest young man was an obvious contras that we read about in " kite runner" book. Although some ambitious and selfish Amir's behaviors were unacceptable, the changes and evolution in his manner were the nice event in this story.

Hitomi's topic

My topic is the difference between Hassan and Amir.

They have many differences such as status, personality and attitude toward each other. Hassan is innocent and does anything for Amir. Amir is totally different from Hassan. It is not too much to say that this difference of their personalities caused the incident.
I would like to compare them in process of time. And also, I would like to write about their relationship with other people like Baba, Ali and Rahim Khan.

Stella's assignment 9

My topic is the difference and similarities between Amir and Hassan.
Actually, kite runner, the whole story in between Amir and Hassan, and the difference and similarities between Amir and Hassan make the plot twists and turns. Thoses things lead to Baba's disparate attitude, their friendship, their different experience and so on.

Amy's topic and thesis statement

My topic is the different and similarities between Amir and Hassan.
Thesis statement:
The different characteristics between Amir and Hassan are obviously because the religion and social status. However, they share some similarities at the same time. They are brothers and the same blood in thier body decide that they connected with eachother tightly in thier whole life.

Liz's Topic and Statement

My topic is about the differences between adult Amir and his childhood, because the story line of Kite runner is the this changes. After the experience of life during the life after Hassan's leaving, Amir turned out to be a brave man with a sense of responsibility. And in America, he could built a closer and more harmous relationship with Baba. However, he never forgot Hassan. Hassan was still a great pain in Amir's heart. This is exactly where this story attracts me. Amir's mistake cannot be forgiven by himself, but his couragement to save Sohrab proves that he is a real man.

Assignment#9

My Topic : AMIR'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ( Relationship between Amir and Rahim Khan And Amir an Baba)

When Amir had been growing up. He had two father figures. Rahim Khan shows more tolerance to Amir and he accepted Amir as who he is. On the other hand, Baba is more restrict to Amir and he wants to make Amir like himself. They both effected on him.

Dana‘s comparative/contrast essay

My topic is young Amir vs old Amir

There are similarities and differences between adult amir and child amir. We can see similarities both ways as physical and mental. Amir has changed a lot since his childhood, but at the meantime, he still doesn't stand for anyone and doesn't want to take risks. Some of his behaviour is remains from his childhood.

Dana's Assignment 8

When Amir said 'Let's just say we both got what we deserved.' He means that himself and Assef both had been punished by what they did in the past. In my point of view, every little thing we did in our life no matter is bad or good, all have feedback to ourselves. Amir didn't help Hassan when he been beat up by Assef in the past, and he had treated Hassan as a slave. It was because Amir that Hassan left the house and died. If Amir didn't do anything stupid then Hassan would have still be alive now. Assef lost his left eye because the fight with Amir is what he deserved. Amir had been beat up by Assef and had to injured badly was what he deserved. They all had paid back what they did when they were children.

Cut off for Responses to Assignment 8

Li Assignment 8

i agree with Aimr said:"Let's just say we both got what we deserved." i think both of Amir and Assef get their deserved, For Amir because 25 years ago,he not stoped Assef to raped Hassan and from that time both of Amir and Hassan life were changed, if Amir stoped Assef, these things maybe will not happened,so Amir felt guilty,he used bad injured to atone. For Assef, because in his life he did a lot bad things for another people, in the end he have to pay for what he did,in buddha has said "no matter what you did, you will get returned same with what you did", so Assef lost his left eye. so i think both of them get their deserved.

assignment 8 from wei

I have to say Amire was right. He admitted everything he has done to Hasson was very bad. They all got what they deserved.Amire still felt guilty about Hasson did to him.Hasson stepped forward when they were kids. Hasson and Ali were forced to leave Baba because Amire told Baba a lie. Hasson even never said anything bad about Baba and Amir. Years later, Hasson gave up his life with his wife in the village and came back to take care of Baba's house and eventually got killed.I even think it was partly Amir's fault. Amire felt more guilty about Hasson after he was told Hasson was his brother. What he have done to his own brother! Hasson was such a giver but he got nothing but lost his live.

Kiho

It was really amazing story both Amir and Sohrab. Before I respons what Amir said, I want to say that I am so proud of Amir and Sohrab and their brave, too. I think it was unfair that Amir got such a terrible scar that Hassan had. I did not understand why he had to deserve this happening. Because he did not fight with Assef, or he did not care about Hassan, does he have to get a scar? If Amir wanted to believe that all terrible things are cause by his mistake in childhood, I could agree with what Amir deserved thing, I will. However, Assef was definitely deserved that happen which was lost his eye. It supposes to be happened to him. One thing very funny thing was Sohrab did to him. I like it.

# 8

Amir, all the time, regret and fell sorry about what happened between him and Hassan in the previous time. When Amir was beaten by Assef, Amir did not fight back because he thought that he deserves that. Amir looks at the situation from more general view and many things from the past were involved. For example, Amir thought that the same person (Assef) who beat Hassan just beat him too, this is one point. The second point is that what happened to Assef in the jail and loosing his vision were a punishment to him. In short, Amir was beating by the same person who beat Hassan as well as what had happened to Assef was what Ameer meant when he said “Let’s just say we both got what we deserved” Yes, I agree that both got what they deserved.

Hitomi assignment#8

I agree that Amir and Assef got what they deserved. Amir had felt guilty since he had the incident. He couldn't forget the scene that Hassan's blood dropped from the seat of his pants. Therefore, when he had a fight with Assef and his body was broken, he said that he felt healed. He even said that he had been looking forward to it. He felt like he made amends for Hassan by fighting for his son. For Assef, he despised Hazara when he was a child, and did bad things to them actually. Even though he grew up, he killed many people. Finally, he lost his left eye by Hassan's son. Amir also had his upper lip cut like Hassan's harelip. Even though I don't believe in God, it's like God gave panishment to them for what they did in thier childfood. Amir felt like what he did was as bad as what Assef did. Therefore, he felt like they got what they deserved when both he and Assef got seriously injured.

Abdullah's assignment

I agree that Talib and Amir got what they deserved because Amir got a injured badly that could have cost him his life, that would be a little pay back to Hassan who did alot for this kid and I would say he deserve it however, for Assef who did so many bad things he lost his eye which is something that he defiantly deserve.

Assignment#8 Ovunc

Amir wants to tell with this response to us. He knows that, he is responsible for the day that Assef raped Hassan. Amir could stand up for Hassan and fought. But, that day, he was so scared to fight with him. So he cause that awful situation back in the day. He thinks that, he deserved all these. Because of what happened. Also he thinks that should had happened in that day. Assef deserved to be one eyed. Because of all of his bad actions and misbehaviour. He caused a lot of pain. Sohrab did what his father was going to do back in the day. I think both of them deserved it. Esspecially Assef. This is Amir's redemption. If he could be brave enough in the past. Things could be different. But, this fight has healed him. Assef deserved it too. He deserves even worst

Jun's assignment8

Assef lost his left eye and Amir got a badly beating. It was just like Amir’s said they got what they deserved. Many years ago, Hassan held a slingshot pointing to Assef when Assef going to hurt Amir. At that time, Hassan said: “If you make a move, they’ll have to change your nickname form Assef ‘the Ear Eater’ to ‘one eyed Assef’ because I have this rock pointed at your left eye (p42).” What happened in that house was just similar situation happened many years ago. But this time, it was Soharb made it instead of Hassan. Assef finally got what he deserved. For Amir, the beating he had wanted for from Hassan. He had been feeling guilty for not standing out when Hasson was harmed by Assef. He tried to provoke Hassan to fight with him by pelting Hassan with pomegranates that day on the hill. But Hassan did not. Now, for saving Soharb, he got a badly beating from Assef. It was deadly fighting, but he felt at peace, he felt healed (p289).

Terry's Assignment 8

I can’t agree more.
Amir was hurt seriously because of Hassan’s son. Amir always remembered that he did nothing for Hassan in childhood when Hassan was bullied. Amir thought he owed Hassan something. And this time, he helped Hassan’s son, maybe it’s another way for him to feel better. For Assef, he did something bad for others. And these brought others a lot of trouble. In the book, Assef lost his eye. It’s the reflection of what he did. He got what he should get.

Stella's assignment 8

I agree that both Talib and Amir got they deserved.
As for Talib, they stoning adulterers, raping children, flogging women for wearing high heels, assacring Hazzaras and so on. Assef lost his left eye, he deserve it.
As for Amir, he abandoned Hassan when he was in danger although Hassan try his best to protect him from hurting by Assef. So finally he had pay for it, he went to find Hassan's son, he has suffered some very significant injuries, he had a punctured lung and almost died. But in some aspect, i think all this to Amir is a disengagement, as Rahim Khan said later, his suffering will come to an end with his journey to Afghanistan.

Anna assignment #8

I am really agree with amir responses that he said: “We both got what we deserved.” In my opinion in this word every single thing we are doing in our life whether bad or good have special feedback (echo) to ourselves someday. In this case is the same thing. When Assef and Hassan was young really Assef treated Hassan as slave, he bother him a lot with telling him you are Hazara and looking him very down. Also he had fight with Hassan when they were young and know Amir whom didn’t help Hassan on that fight he is fighting Assef really hard for getting Hassan son’s. Which cause losing Assef eye that he deserved it. Amir knew Hassan did a lot for him and maybe this can be a smallest return to Hassan’s kindness. In the other hand for Amir was really terrible situation that he has to fight Assef, he injured badly, he risked a lot, he risked whole of his life to get Sohrab and also he had regret if he would keep Ali and Hassan at that home then they would stay together and maybe they had better life together and Hassan would not killed. Missing Hassan and all risked that he did was what he deserved.

Assignment 8 form Xinyue

I agree that Amir and Assef both got what they deserved. To Amir if he treated Hassan much better how can it happen like today. Does he have to come back the very dangerous place? Of course not, they must have happy life together in America. Everything will be changed. Actually Amir didn’t treat Hassan well and he didn’t see him as a friend, however he knows he is wrong. So when he came back Kabul he realized that he should have to face everything in there, and it is a way to be good again. Although he was badly hurt, he didn’t regret. Because he knew he should be deserved. To Assef he treated Hassan rough very mean to him, although there is nothing wrong with Hassan. He did many bad things to not only Hassan but also Soraya. So when Amir came he wanted to finish their old bit of business as if Assef waiting for Amir for a long time. He asked guards not come in no matter what they heard, because he know will be hurt and he should be hurt. So when Soraya helped Amir, and they run away he didn’t let guards to catch them. Because he knew he should be deserved.

Amy's assignment#8

I agree with Amir's opinion that Assef and him both got what they deserved. For Hassan's son, Amir got badly injured in the house. However, he feel better after it because he thinks he has atoned the crime what he did to Hassan by saving his son. The hurt Amir got is a sort of pay back to Hassan.
To Assef, he did a lot of bad things. He killed many people and bullied Hassan's son. His eye is the pay for the sordid things he did before to Hassan.
Amir thinks this is the end of the bad cycle, he could feel less guilty to Hassan and have a more peaceful life in the rest of his life.

Jiahui's assignment 8

Amir said "we both got what we deserved" means He and Assef both achieved what they wanted for so long. For Amir, it means atoning for his crime through being beaten by Assef; For Assef, it means he revenged for something happened in his childhood, such as Hassan used a slingshot to threaten him. Besides, Amir talked to Farid, a man knew little about him, he had no time to explain such a long story in that crisis. That's why Amir only said the brief sentence as response.
I don't agree they both got what they deserved. Maybe Amir exactly got what he wanted, but it's not the same for Assef. He's a brutal person and had an unlimited desire. Thus, he couldn't give them free so easily and would asked for more, I guess. That's the reason why I disagree with the opinion.

Assignment #8 Liz

Amir meant that he had to pay back to Hassan for his mistake. He owed the protection that Hassan ever gave him and he saved Sohrab, getting injured by Assef to pay back. And Assef did very bad things to both Hassan and Sohrab, Amir thought losing his left eye was what he deserved. I dont't agree with Amir because what Amir did was not enough. If he hadn't done the mistake twenty six years ago, Hassan and Ali would have stay with they and they wouldn't have died. Hassan died because he wanted to protect the house, so what Amir owed to Hassan couldn't be paid back just by saving Sohrab. What he owed is life. Amir should give Sohrab a whole new life, which Hassan deserved.

Assignment 8: Chapters 22-23

On page 298, Farid asks Amir, "What happened in that house? What happened between you and the Talib?" Amir's response is, "Let's just say we both got what we deserved."

What do you think he means by this response? Do you agree that he and Assef both got what they deserved? Why or why not?
