Jiahui's assignment 8

Amir said "we both got what we deserved" means He and Assef both achieved what they wanted for so long. For Amir, it means atoning for his crime through being beaten by Assef; For Assef, it means he revenged for something happened in his childhood, such as Hassan used a slingshot to threaten him. Besides, Amir talked to Farid, a man knew little about him, he had no time to explain such a long story in that crisis. That's why Amir only said the brief sentence as response.
I don't agree they both got what they deserved. Maybe Amir exactly got what he wanted, but it's not the same for Assef. He's a brutal person and had an unlimited desire. Thus, he couldn't give them free so easily and would asked for more, I guess. That's the reason why I disagree with the opinion.

  1. Interesting reflection... actually, getting what you "deserve" and "what you wanted for so long" is a very different thing in English! Deserving something means to earn it by your past actions - not the same thing as capturing your goals.
