Assignment#2
I think Amir's relationship with his father is distant. They relationship relies on what they expect on each other, which I think is not health. Because in my mind, the love from father for the child should be inflected on many details in daily life but I can't see this from Amir's Baba. For instance, he seldom hugged Amir, which implies a vivid distance in his heart to the son. Baba's attitude towards Amir led directly to Amir's unhealthy emotion to the father. In this chapter, Amir composed a novel and he was eager to get praise or encouragement from his Dad, as a result he did not have a look at the draft at all, showing no interest in it. This must be a big impact to Amir and made him feel more distant to Baba.

I agree with you. Amir just wanted to be loved by Baba as general families do. I can see the difference of expectation on each other from many scenes.
ReplyDeleteInteresting insights, Xiajie. I agree that Baba has high expectations that Amir is unable to meet because he is so different from Baba.
